Cartografx Corporation was founded in 1997 by a creative group of cartographic professionals, aerospace and software engineers.   The company's mission, which continues to this day, is to bring affordable, high quality mapping solutions to the marketplace.  Our products, both off-the-shelf and custom editions, are designed to operate standalone, over networks, or over the Internet. 

Our customers include many Fortune 500 companies, logistics and shipping companies, software integrators, US and foreign government agencies, all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, marine agencies, colleges and universities, museums, broadcast media, graphic artists, students, and general consumers. 

Our company name, Cartografx, is derived from our two passions, maps (CARTO) and computer graphics (GRAFX).  We are actively engaged in computer graphics research, specifically in the area of three dimensional computer graphics. Recent accomplishments in the field of 3-D computer graphics opens up a whole new world of possibilities in improving the computer / human interface and Cartografx intends to be on the frontier exploring and harnessing all these new possibilities.

Cartografx’s World Navigator family of products are extremely powerful - yet easy and enjoyable to use.   They incorporate the latest available cartographic, bathymetric and informational databases.  World Navigator products have the capability to either be deployed locally on individual Windows 7 / Vista / XP / 2000 based PC / workstations, over an internal network, or via the Internet.

Developing better and more powerful products is our mission.  All of the World Navigator product line utilizes Cartografx’s third generation high performance mapping engine called HIMAP 3.5.  When utilized in workstations and network applications, HIMAP is very efficient.  It renders images so quickly that maps can be “dragged” and repositioned on a computer display with little noticeable refresh.  Indeed the HIMAP mapping engine operates 10,000 times faster than Vector Globe, Cartografx's initial mapping product.    HIMAP is also the foundation for the World Navigator PR and ER map animation function.
